Preschool
Our daily programs run from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. A typical day includes free play/choice time in the classroom, snack provided by the school, circle/meeting time, up to an hour of outdoor play, and time to eat lunch from home. The youngest children attend either 2- (T/TH) or 3- (M/W/F) days a week. Older 2 year old’s/younger 3 year old’s can attend 2-, 3-, or 5- days a week. Children 3.5 or older attend school 5 days a week. Each classroom has a low student to teacher ratio with 1:3 for Toddlers, 1:4 for older 2’s, 1:8 for 3’s and no more than 1:10 for 4- and 5-year-olds. Every classroom has two full time, experienced teachers and one support aide.
Our curriculum is guided by The Creative Curriculum, an inquiry-based curriculum framework, which aids in development of daily plans, activities, schedules, and thoughtful layout of the classrooms. We are also inspired by an emergent curriculum practicing, seeking to identify and focus on areas of interest based on careful observations of children’s play themes, conversations, and experiences. Children who are active participants in their learning are more likely to be meaningfully engaged throughout the day. These guiding practices, paired with our dedication to a play-based program serves as the basis of learning here at CCBC.
